Project description

The Stadtspatzen day care center in Wismar features an innovative design combining natural timber construction and mineral wool insulation. Designed by FREIORT ARCHITEKTEN, this three-story L-shaped building covers 2,533 m² and serves as a multi-functional educational space, housing a daycare, school for future educators, cafeteria, event rooms, and rental office spaces. Its architecture emphasizes sustainability, ecology, and education, aligning with the founders' values of environmental respect.

The building uses a wood-frame construction with URSA mineral wool for insulation, ensuring energy efficiency, high fire and sound protection, and a flexible layout. The use of prefabrication and blown-in insulation expedited construction, allowing the entire building to be completed in just nine weeks. The materials used, including URSA PUREONE and PUREFLOC, are eco-friendly, with 99% recycled content, contributing to the building’s low energy demand and excellent thermal performance.

The building’s design supports sustainability through energy-efficient solutions, such as a photovoltaic system and heat pump. Materials like wood and mineral wool are recyclable, enhancing the project's focus on circular economy principles. The building not only serves as a functional educational space but also as a visible example of sustainable practices for both children and educators.

In conclusion, Stadtspatzen is a model for sustainable, flexible architecture, demonstrating how wood and mineral wool can be effectively integrated for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly buildings.
